WebMy goal is just squaring a value so is there a way to define a “multiply” circuit acting only on the bits storing the value to be squared and then store that value in a new register. This would amount to finding some kind of mapping between the locations of the 1s in the bitstring we want to multiply to the locations of 1s in the result. WebShifting left by n bits on a signed or unsigned binary number has the effect of multiplying it by 2 n. Shifting right by n bits on a two's complement signed binary number has the effect of dividing it by 2 n, but it always rounds down (towards negative infinity).
