Based on your description I don’t that that’s the right tool. “Sweep” commands rotate the profile curve along the rail which makes more sense for your bent wire. WebI couldn't find any similar command within SE, but I achieved my result using Sweep command to extrude along the path, then Move Face to reduce the length of extrusion and Draft command to finally adapt the shape.
